Review || Maybelline Colour Sensational in Hollywood Red

Hellooo My Lovelies,

Hope you are all fine and dandy. Another Review.....

So a couple of weeks ago I popped into Boots and picked up a new lipstick. I swatched it in store and I thought it was the most beautiful classic colour the sort of colour you expect Scarlett Johansson to wear on the red carpet.

The lipstick is a great colour that is very wearable and instantly adds a touch of glamour to any outfit. The pigmentation is great as you can see from the swatch. It is super creamy and easy to apply with a fair lasting power, roughly around three hours. My only little niggle is that it does have a tendency to smudge when I am eating or drinking, but if I wear a lip liner this usually sorts it out. Overall it is a great deep pinky red colour especially for a drug store purchase!

Review || Bourjois Volume 1 Seconde Mascara

Hello there,

Just another review for you today. This mascara is the most recent edition to my make up stash, which is becoming very large, oops sorry bank account! Now I really do love Bourjois, their products are such great value and provide great results, especially their mascaras which have been a little bit of an obsession of mine for a while now. So when I heard out the launch of a new mascara a month or so ago, I needed to get my hands on it. Now I must admit 'it wasn't a love at first swipe' kind of affair for me, I have had to work out a little routine to go with it, but now I am rarely without it on my lashes.

Bourjois have released two types of this mascara, the one below with an orange band which is the normal formula mascara, the other with a blue band which is the waterproof formula. I have the normal one, because I really don't like the idea of waterproof makeup in general.

I love the mirrored packaging of the mascara, it means I can find it easily in my mascara drawer (yes, I have a drawer full of mascara!) or in the bottom of my handbag. Now let's move onto the wand, which is literally like no other wand out there, it's got balls! No I really do mean it has tiny little rubber balls in the head of the wand! The technical term Bourjois have given them is 'wraparound spheres'. I mean just look at them!

The 'spheres' are placed evenly between the bristles and promise to give lashes instant 360° by wrapping every lash in a 360° motion and the straight bristles create a clump free look. The wand instantly lifts your lashes, making your eye look open and wider. Your lashes become fuller and lengthen, however if you use this mascara on bare lashes I found that it clumps a little. But after having a little play around I found that if I used a lengthening mascara as a base coat this would prevent any kind of clumping.

Bourjois Volume 1 Seconde Mascara will set you back £9.99 but is so worth every penny! You can pick it up in any drugstore or here

Review || Lush Catastrophe Cosmetic Fresh Face Mask

Hello All,

I'm Literally at the last straw now with my skin now just as I though 'yeah I can finally see a difference it's looking clear' BAM I'm hit with the worlds worst hormonal breakout :(. So this meant I need to go to my local Lush store and pick up a little pot of Cupcake fresh face mask, but heavens forbid they had sold out so after a chat with one of the girls in store (who was so lovely and helpful) I settled for Catastrophe Cosmetic.

I've been using the Catastrophe Cosmetic mask for a couple of weeks every two to three days and I have to admit  have I have a few reservations. So this is going to be a glowing review I'm afraid.

Lush sell Catastrophe Cosmetic as 'a deep cleansing mask ... designed for regular maintenance to keep the skin clean and clear'. Over time 'regular deep cleaning can avoid spots occurring and keep skin in top condition'. Is it just me or is that really bad english? The mask is packed full of fresh ingredients such as calamine, rose absolute and chamomile essential oils, softening Irish Moss gel and Almond Oil. The mask seems like a great opinion for sensitive skin. The main ingredient in Catastrophe Cosmetic is fresh blueberries are packed full of antioxidants ideal for clearing skin and getting rid of impurities, talc is also used to draw out nasties clogging the skin up. Now this all sounds really positive and what I'd like to have in a face mask.

As you can see it's not the nicest of colours, looks a bit sludgy when it is on, with the chunks of blueberries visible on the skin.  I really like the smell of the mask, it is fresh and 'natural' smelling. The mask, like all other fresh face masks, needs to be kept in the fridge. This means when they are super cool when you put it on, which I love! If you don't like this you could take it out of the fridge fifteen minutes before you use it.

I actually feel like this mask does offer as many applications as other fresh face masks from Lush do. I think I am only going to get about three uses from the tub whereas as with Cupcake I usually get five or six applications, but I like to layer the mask on fairly thickly. I left Catastrophe Cosmetic on for about 10 minutes until it started drying out. As soon as it started to dry I found that it removed itself as a result of me making stupid facial expressions. Anyone else do this when wearing a face mask?! It flakes of in lumps and a fine powder. Then I washed the remainder of the mask off with warm water and muslin cloth then pat my face dry and finally moisturized.

Before I moisturized my skin feel very dry and tight especially in my acne prone areas (jaw line, chin and cheeks). I was hoping for my skin to feel smoothed and softened, so I was pretty disappointed. However the dry skin on my nose did feel softer and was not as red, so that was a positive. After using it three times now I have not noticed any reduction in breakout or blemishes. My blemishes are still very angry looking and sore, which I was hoping would go away.

I don't think I am going to repurchase this mask as it has really dried my skin out which hasn't been good when it is hot and sunny out because my skin is just looking worse for wear. The mask dried really powdery and I didn't like this, perhaps it is the inclusion of talc. I presume talc would cause a powdery base. I have seen some pretty positive reviews of Catastrophe Cosmetic so many I am just one of those unlucky people who just can't get on with it!

You can pick up Catastrophe Cosmetic in store or here for £6.25.

Review || Dolce By Dolce & Gabbana Perfume

Hello All My Beauties,

After watching the highly romantic advert for Dolce I was expecting a beautiful, highly feminine scent which transported me to the orange groves in the advert. The advert was full of such perfect magic, friendly and talkative adults and an innocent conspiracy of children, who enjoyed supported a romance. The orange blossom in the advert made me not even consider the scent being any other kind of flower.

When I finally spritzed the fragrance I was pleasantly surprised, it was not the fresh scent of orange blossom I could smell but a scent I just could quite put my finger on. However, I was hopelessly in love with it so swiped up the biggest bottle and rushed it over to the till.

After arriving back home I popped Dolce into google so I could find out a bit more about the scent as I was a little confused. I opened up the official Dolce page on the Dolce & Gabbana website and this is what it had to say....

The fragrance opens with a brightly-coloured, sweet-smelling explosion of Neroli leaves and Papaya flower, dissipating into a floral bouquet as the core of the fragrance emerges.
A unique and opulent combination of White Water Lily and bold White Daffodil blend perfectly with full-bodied White Amaryllis, a South African flower used for the first time ever in scent.
This floral signature is counterbalanced by the background of warm musky notes, along with the complex accents of Cashmeran; leaving a sensual trail of light woods, earthy tones and piquant spices.

Now I must be honest this is just a load of fancy language to me. All I took from this was the use of the South African flower, White Amaryllis, the specimen used in Dolce is specifically from the Fynbos region of South Africa. It has a rich and generous odour, whereas White Amaryllis found elsewhere do not. The bud of the flower grows at different speeds so each has a different intensity of scent. Dolce & Gabbana have blended this into their fragrance for the first time ever using 'Headspace Technology' which captures the exact scent of the flower when it is in full bloom without having to cut it and grind the petals to extract the essential oil.

After reading all this I could tell I have a very special bottle of perfume in my hands and decided it was to be saved for special occasions. Honestly you need to go and try it. This is my new favourite perfume and I am going to keep a bottle of it for a long time in  my collection.

Book Review || Better Than Chocolate (LIfe in Icicle Falls - Book 1) By Sheila Roberts

Hello All,

Now you may or may not know but I am a free woman now, finished uni for the year and am only working at weekends. So I am finding myself with a lot of free time on my hands and without a major hobby I have decided to read more. So get ready for plenty more book reviews coming your way.

This book was actually a free gift on iTunes, you know that app they do around Christmas time, well on there. I was pretty sceptical at first I'd never heard of the reader or the series of books. But I have finally picked up my iPad and started it. I'll give you a bit of an overview of the story and plot then let you in on  my views.

Sweet Dreams Chocolate Company has been in the Sterling family for generations, ever since Great-Grandma Rose literally dreamed up her first fabulous recipe. But now it looks as if they're about to lose Sweet Dreams to the bank-and that would be a disaster, not only for the family but for the Town of Icicle Falls, Washington. Can Samantha, the oldest daughter and new head of the company, come up with a way to save it? After Samantha does some brainstorming with her mother and sisters, Inspiration strikes. They'll have a chocolate festival! Time's running out, but the Sterling women are determined and the town's behind them, so everything's bound to go smoothly .....

Or not. Events seem to be conspiring against Samantha, and her mother's attempts to help aren't helping. To make matters worse, the fate of her company is in the hands of her archenemy, Blake Preston, the bank manager with the football-hero good looks. It's enough to drive her to chocolate. But Blake's also enough to convince her that (believe it or not) there's something even better than chocolate.

This really was a great-feel good read. The main character, Samantha, isn't going through the best time in her life, with the family business going to pot, but the journey the book takes you on to the happy ending is what makes it good. The book exhumes community spirit and values as the whole town of Icicle Falls rally around Samantha to help her.

I loved the majority of characters in the book and getting to know them was a pleasure. Samantha was a strong female character, however she came with her faults which the book did exploit. She would quickly pass the blame of her situation onto others. Specifically Blake Preston, who I actually rather liked. Blake is a great guy and my heart went out to him something, Samantha was so nasty to him. He was like her whipping post, the poor fella. And the grand gesture he does for her in the end, which I love!

I also rather enjoyed Samantha's sisters their personalities shone throughout the book, and their possible love interests. I am really looking forward to read more about them soon. Really, there were quite a few possible love matches in the town that I am looking forward to reading more about.

While I enjoyed the book, I was not blown away by it. I liked it, and I would like to read more books in the series, but I am not going to make it no.1 priority of mine any time soon. Anyway if you are after a book that will make you smile and feel good, you should definitely check this one out !

12 Amazing Beauty Benefits of Honey

Right my lovelies I have another natural beauty post for you today, it is all about honey and the amazing things it can do for you. Now the honey I am referring to is Manuka honey, which is like a super honey, whatever honey can do Manuka honey does better. If you get my drift.

Number One
Honey has amazing anti-bacterial properties which make it an excellent cleanser for acne prone skin. I recommend that you apply raw honey to an affected area and the rinse off with warm water after 10-15 minutes.

Number Two
Honey is a natural dupe to Bio-Oil and other scar fading lotions and potions. This is because honey has a bleaching effect so can dramatically fade both old and new scars.

Number Three
Honey is very soothing, hydrating and moisturising. Raw honey can be used as a face mask on its own or can be added to DIY masks to get a range of benefits.

Number Four
Honey makes a great conditioner due to its moisturising and softening properties. It also adds shine to your hair. I like to mix it with 2 Tbsp of Raw Honey to 4 Tbsp of Extra Virgin Olive Oil and run it through the lengths of my hair to evenly disperse the mixture and leave it on for 20-30 minutes.

Number Five
Like I mentioned above honey has a bleaching effect and this makes it an effective hair lightener. To do this mix 1 Tbsp of raw honey, 1 Tbsp of Cinnamon to 6 Tbsp Distilled Water and appy it to your hair then rinse it off after one hour.

Number Six
This is one I found on Pinterest (link at the top) and just couldn't get my head around it, using honey for hair removal. Honey when combined with lemon juice and sugar help to remove excess hair. Mix 1 Tsp of raw honey with 3 Tbsp of brown sugar and 1 Tsp of lemon juice. Bring the mixture to boil in either the microwave or on the stove until it bubbles and turns brown. Then allow it to cool. you can use a lolly stick to apply it to your skin, then put a cotton strip on the mix, rub it until it is warm, the pull gently against the direction of hair growth.

Number Seven
Honey can be used to delay the aging processes due to its high levels of anti-oxides. So a tablespoon of honey a day keeps the free radicals at bay. You can either delay the aging process by making honey part of your healthy diet or smear honey on to your face.

Number Eight
This one is my favourite use for honey. Honey makes a wonderful lip scrub. For soft smooth lips mix a teaspoon of raw honey, a teaspoon of brown sugar and a few drops of lemon juice. Apply to your lips and exfoliate.

Number Nine
Honey strengthens your nails and softens your cuticles. Mix a tsp. of raw honey with tsp. apple cider vinegar and apply to your nails and cuticles. Rinse off off after 10 minutes.

Number Ten
Honey prevents boils and bumps caused by shaving. Apply some raw honey straight after shaving and rinse off 10-15 minutes later.

Number Eleven
Honey fades dark circles when applied topically. Take a tsp. of raw honey and apply it to the affected area and rinse off after 20 minutes. Do this twice a week until your dark circles fade.

Number Twelve
Honey's anti-inflammatory properties help calm Eczema, Rosacea and Psoriasis. Apply some raw Manuka honey to the affected areas and rinse off after 20 minutes.
